Fisher named alternate captain

October 2 - As the Ottawa Senators prepare for the opening of the
regular season coach Cory Clouston announced he had selected Mike
Fisher as the team's newest alternate captain.
"I think he's a very good leader," said Clouston. "I think he brings
what we're looking for - work ethic, commitment, he's a team 1st guy.
He does a lot of little things well. As far as the intangibles we think
he brings what we're looking for."
Throughout training camp there had been speculation that Fisher would
receive the "A" and now that it's official the ten-year veteran was
extremely honoured.
"I have worn it a little bit in the past, but it's definitely an honor
to be named alternate captain," said Fisher. "It's not going to change
my role a whole lot. I'm just going to try and lead by example on and
off the ice."
Captain Daniel Alfredsson said the team has a number of leaders, but felt Fisher was a great selection.
"We had a few guys that could have filled that position, but Mike has
been a candidate for it for a while," said Alfredsson. "He's a great
guy who is respected within the room. He brings a lot of character and
definitely one of the best team guys you could have."
